One Of The Most Important Skills For Manufacturing
Welding is an in-demand skill all over the world! Here’s a bonus fun fact for you: 50% of all products worldwide need to be welded. Here are three facts about welding that you might not have known:
Space Welding Is Hands-Free:
In a phenomenon known as cold welding, bare pieces of metal that touch in space become instantly welded together. This is because there’s no atmosphere to keep the metals apart, like there is on Earth.
The Record for the Fastest Build Ship:
During WW2, the SS Robert E. Peary was built and welded in a record time of 4 days, 15 hours, and 29 minutes. The record still stands today! The ship itself sailed in both the Atlantic and the Pacific for just over 20 years – so it was a solid job!
The U.S. Will Need Welders by 2026:
According to the American Welding Society, there will be a shortage of skilled welders as much of the welding workforce approaches retirement. Welding is one of the highest paying jobs in the U.S. that doesn’t require a college degree, and it will continue to be an in-demand career path long into the future.
While the world is pivoting towards less industrial jobs, welding has been with us since Egyptian times and looks set to continue. Stay safe out there with our protective workwear for welders available here.
